  67. Descriptions:
  68. -------------
  69. "Personal RADCOM" - A radiation cloud (plume) dispersion computer program
  70. for both pressurized and boiling water nuclear reactors.  Program allows
  71. you to enter the weather conditions and the amount of radiation being
  72. released and then shows the downwind concentrations and plume location.
  73.
  74. "Personal CHEMCOM" - A chemical cloud (plume) dispersion computer program
  75. for chemical processing facilities.  Program allows you to enter the weather
  76. conditions and the type and amount of hazardous chemical being released and
  77. then shows the downwind concentrations and plume location.
  78.
  79. "Right-To-Know Training" - This program can be used as a tool for small
  80. businesses who are trying to implement a training program to meet the
  81. federal "Hazards Communication Act" requirements.  It automatically
  82. tracks employee progress through several lessons and only permits them
  83. to continue if they pass each test with a score of 80 or above.  The
  84. administration section prints out accurate records of employee training
  85. results in case you are inspected for compliance to this federal law.
  86. Program requires a hard drive.
  87.
  88. "MASS Retail Sales" - This program can be used by small retail outlets who
  89. want to get control over their inventory and sales records using a PC.  It
  90. tracks customer sales, payments and status of inventory.  Program requires
  91. a hard drive.
  92.
  93. "MASS Work Orders" - This program can be used by small or large engineering
  94. or maintenance departments to track requests for work to be performed.  It
  95. uses Work Orders to track a job from request, to assignment, to documenta-
  96. tion of job completion.  The work order system can stand alone or be linked
  97. to an inventory system to track the parts available/used on various jobs.
  98. Program requires a hard drive.
  99.
  100. "School Days" - This program is a training aid for children ages 6 to 16.  It
  101. covers math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, clock, and word
  102. problems), spelling (word lists are randomly generated to the appropriate age
  103. and skill level of the child), the solar system (questions and answers about
  104. the earth and surrounding planets), U.S. geography (states, capitals, rivers,
  105. mountains, etc.), and world geography (countries, capitals, money, physical
  106. characteristics, etc.).  If a printer is available, each session will print
  107. results for you to track your childs progress.  Program requires a hard drive.

  149.
  150.                            DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  151.                            =======================
  152.
  153.     Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  154.     buying it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue using it,
  155.     you are expected to register.  Individual programs differ on details
  156.     - some request registration while others require it, some specify a
  157.     maximum trial period.  With registration, you get anything from
  158.     the simple right to continue using the software to an updated
  159.     program with printed manual.
  160.
  161.     Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  162.     and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  163.     exceptions as stated below.  Shareware authors are accomplished
  164.     programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  165.     of comparable quality.  (In both cases, there are good programs
  166.     and bad ones!)  The main difference is in the method of distribu-
  167.     tion.  The author specifically grants the right to copy and
  168.     distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific
  169.     group.  For example, some authors require written permission before
  170.     a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
  171.
  172.     Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.  You
  173.     should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  174.     whether it's commercial or Shareware.  The Shareware system makes
  175.     fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  176.     And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.  Shareware
  177.     has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  178.     product, you don't pay for it.
  179.
